Nietzsche wrote The Gay Science in German. Nonetheless, he specified the Prelude is in German Rhymes. Thereby, he deliberately emphasized the contrast between his Prelude (and the work it introduces) and a thinking perfected by German philosophers. The latter typically craved an absolute starting point, constructed ponderous abstract systems, and considered an attitude of gravity essential for philosophizing. Nietzsche's Preface presented the notion of multiple, relative starting points for a merry, experiential thinking. The Prelude is another such beginning.
