Conclusion
the last laugh
pp. 209-216
Abstrakt
This chapter argues that to understand humour as a site of radical doubt is neither to celebrate nor condemn it as a cultural form, but rather to acknowledge the possibilities and problems that the cultural ascendance of humour might bring about. In closing, chapter eight considers the author's investment in humour as a cultural form, how that investment might be understood as a function of his own social situation and identity, and manner in which contemporary humour appeals to particular identities and social groups.
