Axel Hägerström would certainly have been surprised on the cold morning of October 31^st, 1917, if someone had told him that he would be remembered as the "spiritual father" of Scandinavian realism.D. Yet, that very day was the first step along the way: The Uppsala University was about to confer upon him a laurea honoris causa in Jurisprudence. As we have seen, Hägerström had in fact already published Stat och rätt in 1904.
