Abstrakt
I am concerned in this chapter neither with the discussion, in anthropomorphic terms, of the motives and behaviour of certain "character types", nor with the structural analysis of the "character effect". I shall be looking at three main groups of Sartrean creatures — drawn from the fiction, drama and biographies — in order to indicate, in the first instance, how they relate to Sartre's theorisation of sexuality examined in Chapter 1. These groups are the femmes-marécages, the class="EmphasisTypeItalic ">femmes-mirages1 and the Genitors. This selection is necessarily reductive, but by no means wholly arbitrary.
