Abstrakt
In the 18th century science ficion expanded from a small-scale literary sub-culture of scientific and utopian-social speculation into something more substantial and imposing. Eventually it would grow to dominate the European and American cultures that birthed it, but that is to look ahead. What we have in this century is a genre beginning to come into its own as the correlative of Enlightenment cultural discourse.
