Introduction

Martin Albrow

pp. 1-9

Abstrakt

Since his death in 1920, the reputation of Max Weber has grown until he is now recognised as the major social theorist of the twentieth century. He is cited by political leaders, and at least one of his key technical terms, "charisma", has entered everyday language. Ideas such as "legitimation" and "life chances' have become an integral part of the language of politics.
