Film hermeneutic method
pp. 105-137
Abstrakt
The development of a methodological reflection on hermeneutics is problematic today not only because of the complexity of the issue but also because the current philosophical debate is instead characterized by a marked anti-hermeneutic trend. This chapter focuses on Ricœur's philosophy, from his early studies on Gadamer, to his later reflections on symbol, narrative and time. The connection between hermeneutics and method is one of the most important issues on the long path of hermeneutics undertaken by Ricœur, probably its crucial problem. Following this path and reflecting on the key aspects of Ricœurian thought, such as the hermeneutic arc and the dialectic between understanding and explanation, this chapter illustrates how Ricœur's philosophy could become the foundation for a hermeneutic method of film interpretation based on the concept of film world.
