The hermeneutic methodological issue in film interpretation on which this book focuses is closely connected with the problem of selecting case studies. Rejecting any grand theory about the film and searching for a philosophical method in film interpretation, how should a case study be selected? Should we take into account films which have been commonly considered in film philosophy or, on the contrary, those that could be considered as not interesting for philosophy? What should we consider as a case study: a single movie, a collection of movies or something else? Some considerations on case study research are proposed in this chapter to make it possible to identify the film cases that will serve to exemplify the functioning of the interpretative method.
